With the help of two of our closest friends, Jason took me on a surprise trip to the Pearl Farm Beach Resort in Samal, Davao del Norte. When we got there, I spent the entire day sleeping because I hadn't been feeling well.
When I left our cabana that night for dinner, I was taken aback by the sight of hundreds of paper cranes strewn across the ground and dangling from the ceiling.
There were candles and a man, who I later learned to be named Jason, standing before me, much as in a movie.
If you fold a thousand paper cranes, Jason continued, you can have one wish granted. “But first, it would mean the world to me if you could grant my desire.” In a really romantic gesture, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

It turned out that his family had handcrafted all a thousand paper cranes. Even though I was in Samal and he and his family were in Manila, I could still feel their love and support for me.
