Gerlie: Two pals texted me early on the morning of January 28, 2017, requesting to meet up after they had finished their last shift of the week. Davao City is home to a 24-hour coffee shop where the three of us found ourselves.
Both of my companions at the cafe eventually left me alone at the table so that they could use the outdoor space. Then, all of nowhere, my lover Byron from Qatar walked in.
Byron gave me a big hug and a kiss and then sat down in front of me as I stared at him, unable to say a word. So I finally broke the silence and asked, “What brings you here?” How long has it been since your arrival? He ignored my question and kept talking.

After that, I looked up to see my mom, my brothers, my sister, and Byron's mom all coming toward me carrying balloons that read “MARRY ME.” Byron proposed to me on one knee, while my family and friends gathered by my side. He was so anxious that he proposed and slipped the ring onto my finger before I could even respond. In order to propose, he spent 13 hours in transit from Qatar to Manila to Davao.

At 2:00 in the morning, I finally answered yes. The day Byron proposed was also our monthly anniversary. It goes without saying that this month was the best one yet!
